Family-owned Mountain Horse has been exclusively designing and manufacturing high-quality equestrian wear since 1988. Based in the village of Vallda in Halland, Sweden, the original Mountain Horse Winter Rider Boot was developed by founder Lars Sjosward who wanted a boot that would help prevent his daughter Catherina’s toes getting cold during the harsh Swedish winters.
It was the world’s first winter-lined riding boot and the start of Mountain Horse.
Since then Lars has been the brand driver and product visionary throughout the company’s history and Catherina is Strategic Brand Manager. Lar’s youngest son Rolf joined the company after completing studies in both the USA and Sweden and has had part of his training in China. Rolf now supervises all footwear development, bringing the latest innovations and technology to an ever-growing and demanding equestrian marketplace. Rolf is the founder of the patented SCS3 System.
The philosophy that shoes and clothing must be stylish, high quality and practical hasn’t changed. What has changed over the years is customers’ knowledge and requirements. “Today’s customers are far more choosy than they were when the business first started,” explained Catherina.
To satisfy the consumer, an in-house design team is tasked with understanding market trends and ensuring that seasonal collections meet customer needs so that the brand continues to produce new seasonal footwear and apparel collections that inspire and are aspirational.
“Every year there are two new collections, one in the spring and one in the autumn and every year we launch a number of innovations in the form of built-in safety features, smart design solutions and new, functional materials for clothing, shoes and boots,” said Catherina.
The company is also focused on maintaining and further establishing its credentials in the equestrian and country life style markets as a reliable outdoor, technical brand that meets both equestrian specific needs and country fashion.
2017 saw the launch of the Excellence range of tall boots that provide entry and mid-level riders with an elegant and affordable range of Dressage inspired tall boots. Three styles make up this range; each is unique, beautifully fitting and elegant.
The vision for Mountain Horse remains to continue producing high quality, aspirational equestrian and countrylife style footwear and apparel that is durable, desirable and functional. The brand is also seeking to significantly increase its market share through excellent customer service, sought after seasonal collections, which are well marketed, and through TV and equestrian title media advertising.
